Näyttely perustuu Valentina Kozinetsin perintöön – hän oli erittäin luova, syntyperäinen lahjakkuus ja mielenterveysongelmista kärsinyt itseoppinut taiteilija, joka kuoli vuonna 2016. Vuonna 2018 Venäjällä Arkangelin alueella folkloristiretken aikana löydettiin tuntemattoman outsider-taiteilijan teoksia poikkeuksellisissa olosuhteissa. Nyt teoksia esitetään Helsingissä laajalle yleisölle ja asiantuntijayhteisölle.

Helsingissä vaikuttava, Sasha ja Pavel Rottsin muodostama SASHAPASHA-duo liittyi kesällä 2018 Pietarin valtionyliopiston ja voittoa tavoittelemattoman järjestön ”The Propp Center for Humanities-based research in the Sphere of Traditional Culture” järjestämään kansanperinneretkikuntaan. Retki suuntautui Arkangelin alueelle Venäjälle. Sovpolyen kylästä löydettiin epätavallisen näköinen kylpylä, ja selvisi, että kylpylä oli toiminut vuonna 2016 kuolleen outsider-taiteilijan Valentina Kozinetsin kotina. Kodissa oli paljon maalauksia ja muistikirjoja, jotka oli tuomittu hävitettäväksi. Retkikunta halusi säilyttää taiteilijan perinnön ja otti löydöt mukaansa.

Osana projektia taiteilijat nostavat esiin monenlaisia ​​kysymyksiä antropologisesta ja kansanperinteisestä tutkimuksesta, tekijänoikeuksista ja omistamisesta, mielenterveydestä ja osallisuudesta sekä henkilökohtaisen ja julkisen omaisuuden ja muistojen periytymisestä.

Päätavoitteena on saada ääni taiteilijalle, jonka taidetta yhteiskunnassa ei arvostettu ja käyttää näyttelyitä ja duon taiteellista nimeä alustana sille.

The exhibition is based on the legacy of Valentina Kozinets – a highly creative native talent and a self-educated artist suffering from mental disorders who passed away in 2016. Discovered under extraordinary circumstances during the folklorist expedition in the Arkhangelsk region of Russia in 2018, the works of the unknown outsider artist will be shown to a wide audience and expert community in Helsinki.

In summer 2018, the SASHAPASHA duo (Sasha & Pavel Rotts) joined a folklore expedition to the Arkhangelsk region of Russia, organised by Saint Petersburg State University and the non-profit organization “The Propp Centre for Humanities-based research in the Sphere of Traditional Culture”. In the village of Sovpolye, they found an unusual-looking bathhouse that had served as the home of Valentina Kozinets, an outsider artist who died in 2016. There were lots of paintings and notebooks inside the home, and the members of the expedition found out that the works were doomed to be thrown away. Wanting to preserve the artist’s heritage, they took the finds with them.

As part of the project, the artists are raising a whole range of questions about anthropological and folkloric research, copyright and appropriation, mental health and inclusion, inheritance of personal and public property, and personal and public memory.

The main goal is to give a voice to an outsider artist whose art was not appreciated by society and to use the exhibitions and duo’s artistic name as a platform for that.
