Lapinlahden Lähde is also interesting to young people in school. Ninth-graders doing their work practice program come to get to know the diverse work assignments in Lapinlahti. It is a joy to get young people to work here, and hear what kinds of things interest them in Lapinlahti.

In September and October Okko Laakso and Amelia Ilsley have been getting to know the work life in Lapinlahti. They have, for example done different communications assignments, worked in the Café Lähde kitchen, and been art exhibition guards, as well as helped with preparing for new exhibitions. Okko was also in the house for the Cleaning day, where he was both holding a mop and a camera.

Okko’s video about Venetsia house that he filmed and recorded can be seen in the Lapinlahti Instagram reels.

The interview below was made and executed by Amelia and Okko:

WHO ARE YOU AND FROM WHAT SCHOOL?

A: I am Amelia, 15y and come from Viherlaakso junior high school.

O: I am Okko, 15y and come from Töölön yhteiskoulu.

WHAT WERE YOU EXPECTING BEFOREHAND?

A: I was expecting to be preparing different events and exhibitions, as well as helping with different things such as carrying things and cleaning.

O: I was expecting to be doing assisting jobs, like moving items, and that I would be instructed to help in different jobs.

IS THE JOB WHAT YOU EXPECTED?

A: Mostly yes, but we do a lot more independent and autonomous jobs than I was thinking at first.

O: The job does not match my expectations. It involves a lot more creativity than I expected, and I have an effect on what I work on.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS PLACE?

A: I applied here, because the history and surroundings are interesting to me, and I’ve always liked coming here.

O: I applied to Lapinlahti, because this place seemed interesting. It’s also nice to work for a non-profit organisation.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING, WORKING HERE?

A: There’s a good and diverse environment and a lot of different opportunities.

O: The best thing about the job is flexibility and the opportunity to affect things. In the video projects I made here I was the one mainly deciding what to film.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS JOB / PRACTICAL TRAINING TO OTHERS?

A: I recommend this place to everyone who enjoys this kind of environment, and those who have a creative mind.

O: I could recommend this place to everyone who is interested in culture activities, and possibly photography and making videos as well.
