Two proposals related to Lapinlahti included in Helsinki’s OmaStadi vote

What would make Helsinki better? Now is the time to vote for what you would like to see in your own neighbourhood. The Helsinki OmaStadi vote runs until Sunday 17 March and includes two proposals related to Lapinlahti.

The first is History and nature path for the Lapinlahti hospital park. The proposal aims to create a history and nature trail around the Lapinlahti area, telling the history and natural values of the area, and informing the citizens about the common cultural heritage. The Lapinlahti area has a strong connection with the history of mental health care in Finland, and the urban nature of the area is also unique. The path would circle around the area and information boards would be placed at points of interest. The path would link the park to the Helsinki waterfront in a very nice way.

The second proposal is “Making yourself heard: influence the planning and decision-making of the urban environment. The aim of the proposal is to create opportunities for peer learning from citizens and professionals on how to effectively influence urban decision-making throughout Helsinki. A space in Lapinlahti will be reserved for the project, where lectures, debates and workshops will be organised. During the project, participants will learn together how to read urban planning documents, find grievances in processes and carry out advocacy communications, for example.

All Helsinki residents over the age of 13 are entitled to vote. You can vote via the omastadi.hel.fi website. To log in, you will need strong authentication (online banking IDs or mobile IDs, edu.hel.fi IDs for schoolchildren). Each person entitled to vote has five votes. You can vote for five different proposals that you want to see implemented. You can only cast one vote for the same proposal. Each person can vote once and cannot change their vote once it has been cast. Each person can only vote on proposals for one region. Lapinlahti is part of the Southern Helsinki area.

For example, the recently opened public restroom near Lapinlahti park is one of the OmaStadi proposals for 2022, so it really pays to use your own voice.
