Belgian-born, Finnish-at-heart Philippe Debroe (b. 1971) returns to Helsinki with Aki’s Actors exhibition: a striking photographic series capturing the iconic faces of Aki Kaurismäki’s films. These portraits are more than cinematic echoes; they form a collective image of a world fading quietly into memory.

OPENING CEREMONY 24.8. at 12 

This exhibition, presented as part of the Lapinlahti Film Festival 2025, echoes this year’s theme of loneliness with quiet intensity. In Debroe’s portraits, solitude is not dramatic. On the contrary, it is quiet, unadorned, and deeply human. Debroe’s images show us the afterglow of cinema, its real-life residue on the skin and soul of those who once inhabited its fictions. The exhibition is about presence, endurance, and the invisible threads that tie us to one another, even in exile.

Aki’s Actors exhibition comes to life thanks to the generous collaboration with the Delegation of Flanders – Embassy of Belgium and Jylhä Logistics.

ACCESSIBILITY
The first floor of the Lapinlahti main building is accessible via a ramp on the side door on the Ruoholahti side. On the first floor you will find the most important facilities, such as the Café Lähte, the Auditorium, the exhibitions of Section 5 and the Corridor Gallery, the Mental Museum and a disabled toilet. The disabled toilet is located at the end of the Section 5 corridor on the right.

Belgialaislähtöinen, mutta sydämeltään suomalainen Philippe Debroe (s. 1971) palaa Helsinkiin näyttelyllään Aki’s Actors, vaikuttavalla valokuvasarjalla, joka ikuistaa Aki Kaurismäen elokuvien ikoniset kasvot. Nämä muotokuvat ovat enemmän kuin kaikuja elokuvasta; ne muodostavat kollektiivisen kuvan maailmasta, joka hiljalleen haihtuu muistojen hämärään.

AVAJAISET 24.8. klo 12

Lapinlahden Elokuvajuhlien 2025 ohjelmistoon kuuluva näyttely heijastaa tämän vuoden teemaa, yksinäisyyttä, hiljaisella voimalla. Debroen muotokuvissa yksinäisyys ei ole dramaattista. Se on hiljaista, korutonta ja syvästi inhimillistä. Näissä kuvissa elokuvan jälkihehku elää edelleen: todellisuuden kerros iholla ja sielussa niiden ihmisten kautta, jotka ovat kerran asuneet fiktion sisällä. Näyttely puhuu läsnäolosta, kestävyydestä ja näkymättömistä säikeistä, jotka sitovat meitä toisiimme, myös erillisyyden kokemuksessa.

Näyttely Aki’s Actors on saanut toteutuksensa Delegation of Flanders – Embassy of Belgium sekä Kuljetus ja muutto O.Jylhä Oy:n arvokkaan yhteistyön ansiosta.
