Näillä näkymin Lapinlahden nykytoiminnot voivat jatkaa entiseen malliin ainakin vuoteen 2025 asti, kenties pidempäänkin. A recap of the recent events pertaining to the future of Lapinlahti:
On November 30th, 2022, The City of Helsinki published a press release detailing the preliminary plan for the future of the former psychiatric hospital in Lapinlahti, Helsinki. In short, the city’s aim is to create a new real estate company to renovate, maintain and rent the hospital buildings in partnership with an international real estate development company NREP. The City of Helsinki is the sole owner of the Lapinlahti hospital buildings currently, but it states that “the aim of the city is to give up premises that are not used for its own services”. Other noteworthy details of the plan are that the Lapinlahti park will remain open to the public and no additional buildings will be built in the park. Moreover, mental health work and activities related to culture and art would be allowed to stay in Lapinlahti.
The Lapinlahti community, which includes the operators, inhabitants and supporters of the area, was shocked by the details of the preliminary plan. Representatives of the community attended a meeting in which it was suggested that NREP would become the majority shareholder in the new real estate company, which is problematic. Another major issue in the plan was that the buildings would be renovated all at once, which would close the buildings for at least 18 months. It would be devastating for the community. In response, the Lapinlahti community published a statement in which it highlighted the issues caused by handing over the majority sharehold to an international real estate corporation and by the proposed renovation plan which would close the buildings completely. In essence, the Lapinlahti hospital area is part of Finnish national heritage, and therefore it should remain in public ownership and not be used for maximising profits.
On Wednesday, December 7th, the Lapinlahti community presented the preliminary plans to the public and the members of the community in the Lapinlahti auditorium. There were also representatives of the City of Helsinki and NREP present. The aim of the event was to increase transparency of the decision-making process and to discuss the plans in more detail. The audience asked interesting questions about the involvement of NREP and suggested alternative ways to proceed. Lapinlahti 360 projektisuunnitelma
Helsingin kivikaupungin luojan, arkkitehti C.L. Engelin, piirtämä Lapinlahden sairaala on Euroopan vanhimpia ja merkittävimpiä mielenterveyden hoidon ympäristöjä, jonka toiminta alkoi vuonna 1841.
Lapinlahti 360 -suunnitelma perustuu Helsingin kaupungin ideakilpailua varten laadittuun ehdotukseen. Alkuperäinen suunnitelma ei lopulta osallistunut kilpailuun, koska kaupallisia toimijoita suosivat kilpailusäännöt osoittautuivat ylivoimaisiksi ehdotuksen taustalla oleville yleishyödyllisille tahoille.
Lapinlahti 360 jatkaa sairaalan tarinaa avoimena kaupunkitilana ja yleishyödyllisenä mielen hyvinvoinnin paikkana – tähtäimessään toiset 180 vuotta kaikkien kaupunkilaisten palveluksessa. Aluetta hallinnoimaan perustetaan pitkäjänteiseen omistajuuteen sitoutuva kiinteistöosakeyhtiö, johon toivotaan Helsingin kaupunki mukaan vähemmistöosakkaaksi.

Osat 1 ja 2: Tulevaisuuden suojelualue ja avoin kaupunki
Helsingillä on mahdollisuus vastata ilmastokriisiin uutta luovana pilottikaupunkina. Lapinlahti 360 tarjoaa kansainvälisen alustan kokeilla sosiaalisia ja teknisiä ratkaisuja, jotka laajentavat kaupunkilaisten, kaupungin ja suomalaisen yhteiskunnan tulevaisuushorisonttia.
Osa 3: Nykyisten rakennusten korjausperiaatteet
Lapinlahden arvorakennuksia ja puistoa tulee vaalia tavalla, joka pitää ne kunnossa ja käytössä ainakin toiset 180 vuotta. Järkevä, varovainen ja hyvin ajoitettu korjaaminen on myös edullista ja pitää Lapinlahden vuokratason sellaisena, että yhteiskunnalliset toimijat pysyvät alueella nyt ja tulevaisuudessa. Lapinlahti 360 pitää alueen ja rakennukset aktiivikäytössä jatkuvasti, ilman isojen työmaiden tuottamia häiriöitä.
Osat 4 ja 5: Toimijat ja organisaatio & toteuttamissuunnitelma
Yhteiskunnalliset ja ekologiset tavoitteet on mahdollista toteuttaa Lapinlahden nykyisten toimijoiden ja Helsingin kaupungin hyvällä yhteistyöllä. Tulevaisuuden Lapinlahti on kaikkien kaupunkilaisten paikka ja kansainvälinen innovaatiofoorumi.
